A life-long Oklahoman, AJ Griffin grew up on a family farm in rural northeastern Oklahoma. The child of educators, she graduated from Adair High School then continued her education with a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Hotel and Restaurant Administration and a master’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, in human environmental science education.

After a decade as a classroom teacher and several years as a non-profit executive, AJ entered the public service arena. First elected to the Oklahoma Senate in 2012, Griffin was a member of senate leadership her entire career and was known as one of the state’s leading advocates for children, youth, families and responsible health policy.  She was recognized by numerous groups for work around juvenile justice, mental health and substance abuse. She also travels the country speaking about child welfare policy to other legislators. AJ is a frequent contributor to KOKC Radio and can been seen on KFOR’s Flashpoint as a guest host. 

Griffin now works for one of Oklahoma’s most important businesses, PayCom, as the Director of Government Affairs.  PayCom is recognized as one of the fastest growing tech-based companies in the country and provides payroll and human resource services to business across the US.

AJ has been married to Trey for 26 years and is Mom to daughters Alexandra and Reagan. She loves the Oklahoma State Cowboys, skiing, reading and everything Oklahoma. She attends Lifechurch and is a member of SALLT class 8.

Melisa received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma in 1999. Following graduation from OU until 2002 she was attending the University of Tulsa in the Legal Nurse Consulting program and an emergency room staff and charge nurse at St. John Medical Center. From 2002 to 2005 Melisa, was working to obtain her Masters Degree in Nursing with a specialty in family practice at the Medical College of Georgia. Simultaneously she was working as an ER nurse at a Level I Trauma Center.

In 2005, Melisa moved back to Oklahoma and joined an Internal Medicine Practice with Tulsa Health Group. She started a Coumadin clinic, continuity practice, acute care practice and began work as a Hospitalist for SouthCrest Medical Center. In 2006, she joined New Beginnings Medical Weight Loss. There she started and administered a medical managed weight loss practice while also providing primary care for bariatric patients. Melisa joined the WeightWise Bariatric Program in March of 2013.

Barney Welch is the owner and President of Associated Underwriters, Inc. (AUI) in Oklahoma CIty. He has over 30 years of experience in the insurance field and has been in the risk management business in both Oklahoma and Arkansas. Specifically, he has worked with hospital risk management since 1981. Barney began his career as a corporate employee benefit specialist and, subsequently, managed several large regional claims offices. He, eventually opened his own third party administration company for processing employer benefit and workers’ compensation claims.


In 2014, following changes in the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation laws and structure, Governor Fallin appointed Mr. Welch as Chairman of the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurance Guaranty Fund Board. His service to this Board led to his re-appointment in 2016.

Barney’s professional academics include classes and seminars in risk management, workers’ compensation, commercial insurance coverage, errors and omissions auditing and ethics. He is a licensed All Lines agent and adjuster.

Mr. Welch is affiliated with the National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc. (NCCI), the SelfInsurance Institute of America, Inc. (SIIA), the Oklahoma Self-Insurers Association (OSIA), and the National Council of Self-Insurers (NCSI). He is a frequent speaker for these associations as well as other industry events.

Heather Tennyson was born in Oklahoma City, OK and grew up in Yukon, OK. In 1992 she graduated from Yukon High School and was elected as State FFA Reporter. After four years at Oklahoma State University she graduated with a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education. She then returned to Yukon where she taught First grade for 7 years. After a few years at home being “mom” she entered the corporate world as an Account Executive in the Ed Tech industry. Heather has had a very successful career in this field, as she has met and surpassed her sales quota year after year. She has won numerous awards and trips as rewards for these feats. Heather loves her job as she feels like still has a positive impact on public education, which has always been her passion. Being the daughter of a 40 year Agriculture Education Instructor, education has always been a priority in her life.


While attending OSU Heather met Michael Tennyson, an Oklahoma State Cheerleader. They were married 10 months later and just celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary. They have 2 children, Mackena 19 and Gage 15. Her daughter had a very successful show career in 4-H and FFA, so Heather got to relive her love by spending several hours in the barn with her family. Both kids are also competitive golfers, so she spends many hours now at the golf course watching her kids do what they love.
